History

Even if no castle rises there, the same field name is found down the valley, and although no fort stood here either, the proud title proves to be historically coherent. To the west, uphill, lies the "Gruaba", which is why it is assumed that "Schlössle" goes back to the accommodation of a mountain watchman.
There is documentary evidence that ore was dug in Lech. As early as 1515, Emperor Maximilian I granted Ludwig von Nordholz a "mine on the Tennenberg". Around 1660, a Johannes Beiser lived "uf'm Schloss", which already meant the stately homestead to which the name was transferred.
Until the 20th century, the Walser home at 1750 meters was one of the highest on the Tannberg and enjoyed its magnificent location amidst the sunny mountain meadows at the top of Oberlech.

My mother Wilhelmine "Minele" Muxel was born 1924
"uf'm Schloss", in the following years the first guests came and the mountain farm developed into the Gasthof Schlössle.

Together with my father Richard Kathan, they built the Karhorn house in the post-war period of the 1940s.

I was born here in 1949 with my twin sister Angelika and we grew up in the Karhorn guesthouse together with our brother Armin.

The siblings Kathan - Angelika, Irmgard and Armin built the house Kar, Oberlech 585.

Architecture

What initially still appears traditional in terms of position and volume becomes in the details in favor of an almost urban-modern impression. The narrow, high p urlins, the type and position of the glazing, and the details of the material treatment lend the house a surprising elegance at an altitude of 1750m altitude surprising elegance and arouse curiosity about the interior. And indeed, the building houses compact apartment homes, whose organization is a modern response to the needs of the residents and the climatic and the climatic conditions of Lech. The pioneering character of the complex is underlined by unusual but sensible combinations of materials: horizontal wooden support elements rest on vertical steel supports,
large-scale glass elements butt up against coated wood-based panels. Accepting and implementing the special requirements of this construction site has led to an unusual and exemplary result.
